AMI meters do something your current meter can't.

They communicate.

With AMI, when something goes wrong on our electricity distribution grid — or at your location — we learn about it faster. Better information means fewer surprises — for BRPC and for you. We can catch problems earlier, plan maintenance before things fail, and make smarter decisions about where to invest in the system.

The Project

Your Coop is upgrading electric meters across our entire service area. Starting this Spring, BRPC crews will install Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters at every service location, from Lacombe County to Lamont County and everywhere in between. Work continues through December 2027.

As a member-owned coop, we answer to you, not to shareholders. This investment is made to serve you and to protect the long-term health of the system you own.

Access Your Usage Data

Once your new meter is active, you'll have access to your electricity usage data through BRPC's member portal. Register for your online account to get started.

Frequently Asked Questions

AMIWhat is an AMI meter?

An AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) meter records your electricity usage and sends that data back to BRPC through a secure network. It allows us to monitor system performance, respond to issues faster, and improve service across our large rural area.

AMIWhat's the difference between an AMI meter and a smart meter?

AMI meters are a type of smart meter. The defining feature is two-way communication — the meter sends usage and status information back to BRPC through a secure network.

AMIWill everyone get an upgraded meter?

AMIHow long will the upgrade program take?

From Spring 2026 through December 2027.

AMIWhich areas are being upgraded?

All areas served by Battle River Power Coop, including Leduc County, Camrose County, Wetaskiwin County, Strathcona County, Lamont County, and surrounding communities.

Trained BRPC field staff.
