Battle River Power Coop is a Rural Electrification Association that operates under cooperative principles. The Coop provides electrical distribution for farms, rural businesses, industry and recreation/residential development. As an electric utility cooperative, the Coop offers several advantages that are unique to the coop business model.

Our rural Alberta service area stretches from the Town of Bruderheim in the north to the Village of Alix in the south, and east from the Town of Wainwright to the Village of Thorsby in the west, spanning 13 Alberta Municipal Districts and Counties. We have been providing safe, reliable electricity distribution to rural Alberta for 70 years and serve 8700 plus members.

We employ 50 qualified people who contribute to the cost effective, reliable and safe energy delivery through services including power restoration, new construction, vegetation management, loans, electrician services and utility billing.

What are We Looking For?

Battle River Power Coop is looking for a highly motivated and experienced System Planning & Engineering Manager to support our Chief Operating Officer with the design and longevity of our distribution system. We’re specifically looking for an individual who is an exceptional team player, devoted to safety and is committed to providing an exceptional member experience.

This position will be accountable and responsible for direct reporting staff and all activities within the System Planning & Engineering Department. Your role as the Manager is to develop long term system planning in the best interest of Battle River Power Coop and its Membership. Integral to this position is the strategic distribution design process, standards development, and the support requirements for new or replacement assets.

What will you bring to the Role?

o Ability to both lead and work within a team environment; including leading by example in promoting and applying safe work practices.
o Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with fellow co-workers and our members; this includes good communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
o Demonstrated ability to work as a part of a team or independently as an individual contributor.
o Good organizational and time management skills, able to manage numerous projects and competing demands.
o Knowledge of basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Outlook etc.) and familiarity with design/mapping software (AutoCAD, PLS Cad, ArcGIS)

Required Qualifications:

o Registered Professional Engineer, Senior Technologist or Journeyman Lineman with 10 years distribution and management experience in the Province of Alberta.
o Possess thorough working knowledge of power transmission and distribution systems.
o Ability to develop and write effective construction related programs, policies, practices, and procedures.
o Previous experience in rural power distribution system operations would be an asset.
o Familiarity with Electric Utility Industry & Cooperatives.

o Business needs dictate that you must live within the Camrose area.
o The successful candidate will be required to produce a current driver’s abstract.
o This has been identified as a safety sensitive position. The successful candidate will be subject to a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
