Battle River Power Coop is a Rural Electrification Association that operates under cooperative principles. The Coop provides electrical distribution for farms, rural businesses, industry and recreation/residential development. As an electric utility cooperative, the Coop offers several advantages that are unique to the coop business model.

Our rural Alberta service area stretches from the Town of Bruderheim in the north to the Village of Alix in the south, and east from the Town of Wainwright to the Village of Thorsby in the west, spanning 13 Alberta Municipal Districts and Counties. We have been providing safe, reliable electricity distribution to rural Alberta for 70 years and serve 8700 plus members.

We employ 50 qualified people who contribute to the cost effective, reliable and safe energy delivery through services including power restoration, new construction, vegetation management, loans, electrician services and utility billing.

Journeyman Electrician

Temporary Full Time

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Journeyman Electrician. This is a temporary full-time position with the possibility of extending to a permanent full-time position.

General Summary:

  • As a Journeyman Electrician, you will perform activities related to the electrical construction, maintenance, and repair
  • Recognize, assess and control potentially hazardous situations in the work environment
  • Function effectively as an integral part of a work group working with and reporting to the management team
  • Work safely in all conditions
  • Possess knowledge of Industry standard safe working practices
  • Help out in the Warehouse when needed

Qualifications:

  • Red Seal Journeyman Electrician Certificate
  • Effective organization and planning skills with a background using Microsoft Office
  • Self-starter with the ability to work productively and independently
  • Excellent interpersonal, team participation and communication skills
  • Strong electrical construction and maintenance knowledge and skills

Hours of Operation:  Hours of operation are generally 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, four days a week.

IT Assistant (Maternity Leave)

Battle River Power Coop is a cooperative electric utility in Central Alberta supplying electricity to about 8700 rural members.  We have a staff of about 53 employees engaged in all aspects of power distribution from installation to maintenance to billing, all administered from the same office near Camrose, Alberta.

IT Assistant will provide support and assistance to the IT Manager in the day-to-day maintenance and security of the IT System.

General Summary:

  • Assist in evaluating and prioritizing incoming work orders requests
  • Handle problem recognition, research, isolation, resolution, and follow-up for routine user problems
  • Consult with support to explain software errors or to recommend changes to programs
  • Contact Software and Hardware Vendors to request service regarding defective products
  • Prepares software documentation outlining training, process & procedures and possible visual displays
  • Work with IT Manager with new system facilitation, current system enhancements
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly backups as required

Qualifications:

  • One (1) year certificate from college or technical school
  • One (1) to Two (2) years related experience and/or training preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Good judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both in verbal and written
  • Ability to adapt to changes and excel in a team environment
  • Solid knowledge of information security principles and practices

Hours of Operation:  Hours of operation are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
