Battle River Power Coop is a Rural Electrification Association that operates under cooperative principles. The Coop provides electrical distribution for farms, rural businesses, industry and recreation/residential development. As an electric utility cooperative, the Coop offers several advantages that are unique to the coop business model.

Our rural Alberta service area stretches from the Town of Bruderheim in the north to the Village of Alix in the south, and east from the Town of Wainwright to the Village of Thorsby in the west, spanning 13 Alberta Municipal Districts and Counties. We have been providing safe, reliable electricity distribution to rural Alberta for 75 years and serve 8700 plus members.

We employ 60 qualified people who contribute to the cost effective, reliable and safe energy delivery through services including power restoration, new construction, vegetation management, loans, electrician services and utility billing.

System Planning & Engineering
Field Design Technologist Specialist

General Summary

  • Meet members to determine current and future requirements for small distribution new connects with respect to location, load and service type
  • Design for distribution system modifications utilizing in-house mapping software
  • Generation of permit applications including Alberta Transportation, county, pipelines and existing power system owners
  • Provide coordination and manage quality control for delivery of projects as required
  • Provide customer with service requirements and accountabilities
  • Provide/or confirm technical and field information for the design of complex new connects

Qualifications

  • Strong project management, customer service and communication skills
  • Experience in an electrical distribution systems
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply legal plans, electrical codes and Land Survey Act
  • Comprehensive knowledge of computer systems including; Word, Excel, Access and MS Outlook
  • Powerline Technician Trade or Electrical Engineering Technologist
  • Four years related experience in distribution design, surveying, construction, operations of distribution powerline facilities
  • A valid Driver's License

Hours of Operation

Hours of operation are generally 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

What are We Looking For?

Battle River Power Coop is looking for a highly motivated and experienced IT Manager who will report directly to our CEO. We're specifically looking for an individual who is an exceptional team player, devoted to safety and committed to providing an exceptional member experience.

This position will be accountable and responsible for overseeing all aspects of BRPC's information technology, including infrastructure, security, and staff, ensuring efficient and effective operations training.

What will you bring to the Role?

  • Experience in IT on-premise and cloud infrastructure, software and hardware budgeting, implementations, project management, enterprise resource planning, architecture and strategy.
  • Safeguard the technology environment to ensure the availability, integrity and security of all data, applications and all other digital assets.
  • Ensuring IT infrastructure, security and backup practices are implemented and operate according to policy, standards, and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures.
  • Maintain relationships with service providers and vendors to ensure availability and integrity of the IT infrastructure, including vendor selection, contract management, service agreements and operations.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of best practices in IT administration and system security, and industry certification.
  • Ability to both lead and work within a team environment, including leading by example in promoting and applying safe work practices.
  • Good organizational and time management skills, able to manage numerous projects and competing demands.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Information Technology and/or Computer Science
  • 5 plus years of IT experience, with proven progression leadership in a supervisory capacity
  • Experience as a System/Network Administrator, including but not limited to the following technologies:
    • Broadcom VMWare 8.x
    • HPE & Lenovo servers and SANS
    • Veeam Backup and Replication - on-premise and cloud
    • Microsoft 365
    • Windows Server 2016 and higher
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2016 and higher
    • Cisco Meraki switches, access points and firewalls
    • Phone systems, patch management, security systems, data backup/recovery and cloud solutions
  • Highly self-motivated and directed
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Familiarity with Electric Utility Industry & Cooperatives
  • Must live within the Camrose area

Vegetation Planner

About Us

Battle River Power Coop is a cooperative electric utility in Central Alberta, supplying electricity to about 8700 rural members.

We have a staff of about 62 employees engaged in all aspects of power distribution from installation to maintenance to billing, all administered from the same office near Camrose, Alberta.

General Summary

Patrol power lines for vegetation clearance deficiencies and plan cost-effective treatments to manage vegetation. Communicate work plans and obtain consent from Utility Customers for vegetation maintenance operations, including mechanical and herbicide applications.

May at times assist with the Trim Crew on vegetation maintenance operations.

Qualifications

  • ISA Certification would be an asset
  • Must have clear, concise and professional communication with people, both orally & in writing
  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy is required
  • Good judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
  • First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Must have team experience; developed ability to communicate with members of a team and to be able to easily comprehend and follow instructions
  • Must work well with others
  • Previous experience in the Vegetation Industry would be considered an asset

Hours of Operation: Hours of operation are generally 6:30 am to 5:00 pm, four days a week.
