Distribution System Operator Services – West Wetaskiwin REA
Effective November 16, 2021, Battle River Power Coop entered into a Distribution System Operator (DSO) agreement with West Wetaskiwin Rural Electrification Association (REA).
West Wetaskiwin REA is located southwest of Edmonton and is comprised of over 900 members/services (see service area map below).
In addition to operating the West Wetaskiwin REA distribution system, which includes new construction, annual maintenance and emergency outage services, Battle River Power Coop will also continue to provide the Regulated Rate Option (RRO) to West Wetaskiwin REA members without retail electricity contracts. West Wetaskiwin REA will also have access to the Battle River Outages App, available through the Google Play and Apple App stores.
This agreement is an example of strength of cooperatives partnering with like cooperatives and leveraging cooperative principles.
West Wetaskiwin REA’s emergency communications will be integrated into the Battle River Power Coop system and the Coop website will incorporate outage information for West Wetaskiwin REA in addition to our own.
The term of this initial agreement is 5 years and both organizations are looking forward working together to “Keep the lights on!”
