Distribution System Operator Services – Tomahawk REA

Effective January 5, 2021, Battle River Power Coop entered into a Distribution System Operator (DSO) agreement with Tomahawk Rural Electrification Association (REA).

Tomahawk REA is located west of Edmonton and is comprised of nearly 700 members/services (see service area map below).

In addition to operating the Tomahawk REA distribution system, which includes new construction, annual maintenance and emergency outage services, Battle River Power Coop will also provide the Regulated Rate Option (RRO) to Tomahawk REA members without retail electricity contracts.

This agreement is an example of strength of cooperatives partnering with like cooperatives and leveraging cooperative principles.

Tomahawk REA’s emergency communications will be integrated into the Battle River Power Coop system and the Coop website will incorporate outage information for Tomahawk REA in addition to our own.

The term of this initial agreement is 2 years and both organizations are looking forward working together to “Keep the lights on!
