This is Battle River Power Coop’s sixth year of providing Meal to the Field for farmers in our service area. Once again, we divided our service region into 10 zones and drew a winner from the entries received in each area. The contest provides the winners a nice break from preparing meals. Plus, it is a great opportunity for Battle River Power Coop staff and Directors to meet our members and families personally.

Along the way we met farmers who have dealt with many farming challenges, including the challenge of COVID-19, this year. We met farm families who support each other and offer aid to neighbors when needed. We have also seen great strength in families, who have farmed the same land for generations. Each family we met were all glad to be in the fields and talked about how thankful they are to be able to get their crops off this year despite the seemingly constant rain as well as hail that might have affected their crops.

The 2020 Meal to the Field recipients are: Craig & Jackie Almberg from Czar, Dale Cleland from Wetaskiwin, Tim & Deb Hofstra from Millet, Ronald & Karoline Kiddine from Sherwood Park, Dave & Cristy Lidberg from Bashaw, Melvin Marinoski from Calmar, Derek Price from Sedgewick, Don & Marlene Sproule from Bashaw, Grant Thompson from Millet, and Loren Whidden from Hardisty.

We offer congratulations to those who won a Meal to the Field this year, and admiration to all the farm families in our service area. We recognize the long hours, late nights, and dedication to farming. Thank you!
