Members of Battle River Power Coop are among the 18 million Canadians who belong to at least one cooperative. Many of our members belong to other coops, like a financial institution, a food coop, a farm supply coop, a fuel coop, or a wide array of other choices. The cooperative business model has been in use formally and informally for centuries, adding to the economies of local communities, answering local needs and employing local people.

A great way to introduce youth to the unique benefits and versatility of cooperation is through a week at the Alberta Community Co-operative Association’s Youth Leadership Program. Participants have an opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities, develop leadership and teamwork skills, make lasting friendships, and increase their levels of confidence and independence. Recreation and education are intermingled in the camp setting located at the Goldeye Centre near Nordegg.

Battle River Power Coop, as part of our commitment to the Cooperative Principle of Education, offers two sponsorships to the Youth Leadership Program each year. Eligible applicants will be 11 to 18 years old and dependents of Battle River Power Coop members. Interested members should first visit the ACCA website to see camp dates and ensure that you are able to commit to attending during the appropriate week for your age group. On the ACCA site you will also find information about leaders, program specifics and more. The tab, “Read Testimonials”, will give insight into the experiences of past campers. Then go to for complete eligibility information and a downloadable application form. Please be sure that your application is in the Battle River Power Coop office by Friday, May 3, 2019.
