Battle River Power Coop is a full-service power utility in rural central Alberta, distributing electricity to 8600 members. It is a lean, efficient cooperative business that places a priority on member service. Note the use the word member instead of customer. Member-owners benefit from an organization that operates under cooperative business principles with the goal of leaving savings in members’ hands- money that remains in rural Alberta communities and does not leak out in the form of profits for stockholders. The result is that members benefit from lower distribution rates and more personalized service. Here’s what we do:
Build new services: Whether you are planning a new power installation or changing an existing one, the System Planning and Engineering Department will work closely with you to ensure that we understand your needs and the service we build responds to them.
Maintain the System: The Operations Department installs and energizes new services, both overhead and underground, and maintains the 42,000+ poles in the system. They do line inspections, pole changes and transformer upgrades or downgrades. Battle River Power Coop responds to service calls day or night, 365 days a year.
Electrician Services: As a response to member requests, Battle River Power Coop members may hire an electrician through the Coop for a full range of electrician services.
Vegetation Management: The Vegetation Management team maintains designated vegetation clearances around energized power lines, structures, and equipment, enhancing system reliability. Our program promotes safety, reduces power outages and improves power quality. A value-added component in Battle River Power Coop is coordination of vegetation management with the Counties and Municipalities in our service area. Tax dollars are used efficiently and effectively during the construction of capital projects, to the benefit of Coop members and tax payers.
Administrative Support: Office staff answers phones, handles finances, sends monthly bills and receives payments. It is vital to the organization that maps and inventory stay up to date, supplies and equipment are ordered and maintained and field operations are efficiently scheduled. Member service is a high priority and it is important to us that when you phone Battle River Power Coop, your call is answered by a real person.
