Committed to Community and Safety
Teaching in Schools
In continuing with Battle River Power Coop's commitment to community and safety, we created a presentation that aligns with the current Alberta Grade 5 science curriculum that teaches the students about electricity and electrical safety while working and playing near power lines.
This interactive presentation is in the form of a power point slide show and has a hands on portion with a Hazard Hamlet (a small community set up to show what not to do around power lines). The students have a chance to see and hold a lineman's personal protective equipment, climbing gear, and high voltage rubber gloves made for handling 25000 volts!
This presentation takes about one hour to complete and is provided at no cost to the school. It's presentation and hands-on experience can help these young people understand how dangerous a power line can be.
EMS/Fire Department Teaching
We are also offering to present to emergency personnel about power line safety at no cost. This program includes a high voltage demo presented by Battle River Power Coop journeyman, who will demonstrate live line contact with actual power line equipment. This coordinates safety and synergies with the county through education.
